Archie Panjabi Joins Idris Elba’s ‘Hijack’

Apple TV forms the main cast of the series

Archie Panjabi has joined the cast of the Apple TV+ series Hijack starring Idris Elba. In the seven-part thriller, Elba plays Sam Nelson, a businessman bound to take on the challenge of saving the lives of passengers on a hijacked plane bound for London. Panjabi will appear as Zahra Gahfoor, a field-working counter-terrorism officer who is part of the investigation.

The series is narrated in real time over the seven-hour flight. Panjabi won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2010 for her role as Kalinda Sharma in “The Good Wife” as a supporting actress in a drama series. She most recently appeared in the miniseries I Know this Much is True opposite Mark Ruffalo, her recurring role in Run created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and in Snowpiercer.

Panjabi was also seen in the lead role in the six-episode miniseries “Departure” alongside Christopher Plummer and has recently wrapped up its third season. Panjabi previously played the head of the NSA in the NBC drama Blindspot. Before that, she was seen in the movie San Andreas. Elba also serves as executive producer on the show, along with screenwriter George Kay (Lupin) and director Jim Field Smith (Criminal).

Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta and Kris Thykier are also serving as executive producers on the project. Hijack will be the first production to emerge from Elba’s first-look deal with Apple TV Plus and production company Green Door Pictures. The series is produced by 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions with Green Door.
