Director Nelson Dilipkumar, who presented the blockbuster of the successful dark comedy “Colamavu Cokila” with Nayanthara, teamed up with his old friend Sivakarthikeyan for “Doctor”. “Doctor” begins with Padmini (Priyanka Arul Mohan) proposing to her friend Dr. Varun (Sivakartikeyan) refuses because he is dissatisfied with him as a person, especially with his expressionless face and demeanor. Congratulations to Sivakarthikeyan for breaking stereotypes and playing a completely different character than usual. He won a lot with his expressionless acting and conveyed the brilliance of his character with his body language. He has come a long way in action sequences and “Doctor” is sure to take his career schedule to the next level. Priyanka Arul Mohan has made a solid debut and is an absolute treat as the only serious person in the cast with lots of laughs at their expense. The scene where he pleads with Yogi Babu to send Shiva to him at an inopportune moment is a scream.
Yogi Babu as Pratap, the kidnapper, Dr. Varun is the victim of a lot of loud laughter that does nothing better than a play of applause that is fun to watch. Ilavarasu, Archana, Alex, Sunil Reddy and Siva have slack in the script and have achieved great success. The star of the show, however, is undoubtedly Redin Kingsley as the cop who has become the accomplice who, with his unique combination of dialogue and slaps in the face, destroys the house. The biggest applause in theater for him was when he climaxed his rescue act.
Similarly, in comedic moments, Deepa stands out as a family servant. Viney is portrayed as a deadly villain, but he’s given no room to scare or tickle funny bones, and this has proven to be a huge drag throughout the film. Compared to him, the twins Raghuram and Rajiv Lakshmanan are more charming as bald-headed villains.
What works best in “Doctor” are the moments of loud laughter that spread throughout the script. Many of them land when you least expect it to be so much more fun. There is a freshness in the way the story develops which is a big plus. The action on the subway is re-choreographed and balances comedy and thrill. Viewers are won over when the hero looks beyond love and family and wants to save the girls, which is a powerful act that saves the day for the film.

Screenwriter director Nelson maintains his strength and has created an adorable dark comedy that grabs attention most of the time. Sivakarthikeyan Productions and KJR Studios jointly developed this unusual film that could spell change in the game in the post-COVID 19 era.
