Hoka and Engineered Garments’ Latest Sneakers Are Kings of the Concrete Jungle
A few fun facts about jungle cats: They’re fast as fuck, have the kind of pelts that show they’re in charge, and are fiercest when they attack in groups. It’s no wonder they’re at the top of the food chain. These characteristics also apply to the longstanding partnership between Hoka One One and Engineered Garments. Don’t sleep when you see these two brands coming your way.
Today, Hoka, a purveyor of some of our favorite running shoes, and Engineered Garments, an American-slash-Japanese streetwear label founded by Daiki Suzuki, have released their fourth collection together. The line consists of four versions of Hoka’s iconic Bondi L sneakers. Three—leopard, black, and taupe—feature a mix of cow hair, suede, and mesh, while a fourth pair in brown ditches the cow hair and throws croc-embossed leather into the mix. Past collaborations included refreshes of the Bondi B, Tor Ultra Low, and the Hupana—but the latest one is definitely king of the concrete jungle.
“For this design, I wanted to merge some of the staple elements of past Engineered Garments’ shoe and boot collaborations into a sneaker,” said Suzuki. “With the functionality and comfort of the Bondi L, I found it to be an open canvas and the perfect silhouette for this project.”

As a former marathoner, Suzuki understands the necessary components that go into an ideal runner, from the ergonomic shape to the lightweight build to the wide footbed and cushioned platform that allow for maximum support and comfort. Indeed, all these qualities are part and parcel with the Bondi L. And though it is technically a lifestyle shoe, the eye-catching update definitely works for prowling with utmost speed. “Our fourth collaboration with them showcases yet again the intersection of performance and fashion, and the brilliance that can result when the cutting edge of both those worlds come together to build something unique,” said Gretchen Weimer, vice president of product at Hoka One One.
If you fancy yourself a cool cat, and are looking for new sneakers with bite, this collab with Hoka and Engineered Garments might be just the thing. And like any predator eyeing its prey, it is always best to pounce quickly.
