Kia is gearing up to launch a new seven-seater SUV in India, after introducing its Korean brother Hyundai’s Alcazar three-row SUV. The automaker has earlier said that the three-row MPV will be launched in India early next year. The MPV, which could be based on the company’s successful subcompact SUV Sonnet, has been spotted testing on Indian roads several times in the past.

For the Indonesian market, Kia previously developed a seven-seater version of the Sonet SUV. The three-row SUV was introduced in April this year and is priced at IDR 199,500,000 (approximately Rs 10.21 lakh).

The new Kia MPV, which is expected to compete with the Maruti Ertiga and XL6, could get an extended Sonnet SUV with another row of seats, a slightly longer wheelbase and a length of over four metres. As per the spy shots, the new MPV, codenamed KY, is likely to be fitted with LED headlights and DRLs, chrome highlights and 17-inch dual tone wheels.

The next Kia MPV is unlikely to include a sunroof, unlike the three-row SUV built on the Sonet, which has an AC vent installed on the roof for the third row passengers. AC vents for second row passengers are located between the front row seats, under the center armrest.

The Kia Sonnet Premiere 7, comes equipped with a top-of-the-line seven-seater, 10.25-inch LCD infotainment screen. Multiple Bluetooth connections, voice recognition, USB and AUX connections, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are just a few of the features available.

The 1.5-litre Gamma II Smartstream Dual CVVT engine used in the Sonet seven-seater SUV is expected to power the next Kia MPV. It has a maximum power output of 115 PS at 6,300 rpm and a maximum torque output of 144 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The engine will definitely be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or Intelligent VT transmission.

The 2019 Kia MPV is expected to incorporate all the latest safety and comfort features from the automaker. 6 airbags, ABS braking system, EBD and brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC), hill assist control and emergency stop signal, a rear camera with dynamic parking guide, remote engine start, wireless smartphone charger and tire pressure monitor system . Other features are likely to be included.
