Varanasi: A statue of Maratha queen Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, who renovated the Kashi Vishwanath temple in 1777, will be installed in the Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor, which will be dedicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 13. There will be idols of Adi Shankaracharya, Bharat Mata, and Lord Kartikeya all in the temple premises.
Divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal said, “The process of restoring the idols of Goddess Parvati, Goddess Annapurna, Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman and Lord Satyanarayana in the KV temple complex has started with the construction of prefabricated temples there.” Agarwal further said, “The installation of idols of Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, Adi Shankaracharya, Bharat Mata and Lord Kartikeya has also started. The statue of Adi Shankaracharya will be placed near the ghat on the banks of the Ganges at the entry point of KV Dham.” A statue of Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar will be installed near the Tourist Facilitation Center and Bharat Mata will be installed at the temple square. The idol of Lord Kartikeya is being installed near KVT. Each statue will be 6.5 feet high and will be installed on stone rugs.
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, has undergone substantial renovation and enhancement for the first time since its completion by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar in 1977.
