Very few of you might have. And let me compliment you on that. Cyberpunk is indeed a very engrossing genre to have an interest in.

And for the ones who stumbled here by mistake and wondering what in the world are “Cyberpunk” animes.

Let me tell you something about this forgotten genre of the anime world. Cyberpunk is an old yet still evolving genre of the animation bubble.

The genre was introduced to the world by Bruce Bethke in 1982, through his story, “Cyberpunk”.

Cyberpunk is known to be a sub-genre of the well-loved genre “science-fiction”. Cyberpunk has always been something that could look into the future for you.

I mean, you might have thought robots will work for you, from waking you up from sleep to doing your laundry.

From making you some delicious snacks to taking you to places. No one would have.

Nevertheless, there were still few among the geniuses that anticipated this change from ages ago.

And they were more amazing people who brought this interesting topic to the anime world.

Far, in the future, where everything is on the verge of destruction and humans are needed to live on colonized planets, a system monitoring their lives.

But, this new development led to the birth of people with extraordinary powers. These kinds of people are known as “Mu”.

Humans are terrified of them but all the Mu wants is peace. They want to have a life without any intimidation of being feared.

They want to go back to the Earth but that is not a planet to live on anymore.

With the increase in pollution and running out of resources, it becomes impossible for a human to survive.

Oblivious about all this, we have Jomy. A young boy who will be turning eighteen soon and super excited about it.

But, what will happen when he comes across his powers? And will he be the one to guide everyone back to Earth?

The show is 24 episodes long and the first episode was aired on April 7, 2007.

The anime was abstracted from a manga series written and illustrated by Keiko Takemiya. The serialization was done by Asahi Sonorama in Gekkan Manga Shonen.

All the chapters were later collected and made into five bound volumes.

In August 1980, the volumes were reissued and a movie, “Towards the Terra” was released directed by Hideo Onchi, and produced under the label of Toei Animation.

Everyone is living in fear while scavengers try their best to protect the humans as much as they can.

Their hope deepens when they come across a man called Killy, who might lead them in the right direction to save humanity.

The movie is a recent sensation that was released in the year 2017. It is based on a science-fiction manga with the same name.

The duration of the movie is around 106 minutes and was produced under the production banner Polygon Pictures.

The anime is now also available on Netflix so binge!

A year after in 2002, the second season came into view. The anime is also a manga adaption with the name “ARMS”.

It was written and illustrated by Ryoji Minagawa. It got serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday in the year 1997.

The serialization ran a long way from 1997 to 2002.

They exchange promises to reach Outerspace and fulfill their new dream. However, when Helium 3, a new energy source is discovered on the moon, the Nasa Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA) can help Earth.

And now the noblemen are sighting off to live their dream and to harness the Helium 3 energy source.

This anime has also run for two whole seasons airing from 2007 with 12 and 14 episodes respectively.

Another robot-based anime. The rapid growth in technology had led them to an ability where they can create powerful cyborg soldiers.

These soldiers were named the “Extended”. Juuzou Inui is also one of these Extended. The boy was created into one with no memory from his past life.

However, once the war comes to an end, he starts a new business where he could take care of Extended-related matters.

And on an unusual day, a huge robotic Extended falls before his door carrying a boy on his back.

The Extended has been desperately asking for help. But, what such a giant need help with?

And what’s the matter with the kid? Is this by any chance related to the kidnapping rumor of a child?

The questions deepen when he starts doubting the Beruhren Corporation, which was the reason behind all this Extended thing.

Like any other anime on the list, this is also has been adapted from a manga released with the same name in the year 2014.

Later on, this manga by Karasuma and Tasuku got animated in the year 2019 with 12 episodes which later on was extended to season two.

45. Cyborg Kuro-chan

He wants to protect his owners just like any other pet. His life changes when on a date with his girlfriend Pooly, a dog he gets kidnapped.

An evil scientist turns Kuro into a machine. He turns him into a robot which later is been solved by Koru who removes the chip from inside of him.

However, the experiment has changed his appearance entirely including an achievement to talk just like a human.

But, that just makes people scurry away from him. He then decides to live under the skin of a stuffed toy and be the same pet forever.

The anime is one of the long ones with 66 episodes and got premiered in the year 1999.

It has been adapted from a manga series with the same name.

While running away, the incredible threatening situation makes the Princess swap bodies with the hunter Falis.

The Princess wants to protect the kingdom at any cost. She, then asks Falis to take her place in the kingdom and save people.

And this way, we found our rise to the “Murder Princess” which a very big mouth.

The first episode was aired on March 28, 2007, under the license of Funimation. The source again is a manga.

The anime is only six episodes long with 24 minutes each. What more do you want to know?

She successfully made it through the war and now is in out where she met her former friend and lover, Jurota Kosugi.

She realizes that the boy she loved is now a cyborg resulting from his wounds from the war.

She soon also discovers a new cyborg ethnicity, Bioroids. The Bioroids are most seem to be an eye-sore for the peaceful life of Olympus.

But, what triggers her the most that the life span of Bioroids is seemed to be shorter and as if something is been controlling that.

Hence, she jumps in to investigate this matter. The movie got released in 2004 under the production company Digital Frontier.

The duration of the movie 103 minutes. And was released with a budget of $10 million.

Armitage III and Poly-Matrix is an anime set in the far future of 2046. Due to the overpopulation of Earth, humankind has started their colonization on planet Mars.

With the help of android, the race can eradicate the usual environment of Mars into a more friendly one to live in.

They are all set to invade the planet and form a city by the name Saint Lowell.

Now, this does sound interesting, doesn’t it? And the fact that this anime was released back in 1995 is way surprising.

The first episode of the anime was aired on February 25, 1995. There are been only four episodes which gives more reasons for us to watch it.

The extraction again has been done through a manga of two volumes, by the same name by Zarae Otana and Tatsuya Ikegami.

Chise is what you call a regular schoolgirl. With a lean and small figure, she was very fragile with limited knowledge.

She is only being enjoying her life to the fullest by virtue of her loving relationship with her boyfriend Shuuji.

The couple resides in a small town known as Hokkaido, which is also a military base town.

One day, when Shuuji and his friends visit Sapporo to get some exciting gifts for their girlfriends, a major air raid on that town ends up killing thousands of people including one of Shuuji’s friends.

Running away from the place, Shuuji spots his girlfriend Chise whose fragile body was no longer made of only flesh, there was steel included.

She was attached a pair of steel wings and her right hand was replaced by a massive gun.

She was manipulated and turned into a cyborg weapon despite unwillingness. But, what would Shuuji do now?

Was his girlfriend even a human anymore? The anime was first aired in July 2002 and has 13 episodes in total.

The source again is a manga.

In meanwhile, Karala, a member of Solo Ship who is also a past member of Buff Clan realizes she is pregnant and thinks that the baby can be their last hope and put a full stop to this war.

However, the birth of the child increased the strength of Ideon and gave more oil to the burning flame.

The movie got released in the year 1982 and it about 1 hour 40 mins long.

The set of the anime is far future, where humankind is on the verge of demolition.

The only human that could everything from destruction is still missing. And the savior is Age, the only human that was raised by the Golden Tribe.

The crew of Argonaut and the princess Dhianeila are all set to travel through the entire universe just to find Age.

At last, they do. They find Age on an abandoned planet, Oron. Now, along with Dhianeila and Age, their journey of saving earth begins.

The anime aired its first episode in the year 2007 and ran over 26 episodes.

Levius is a young boy who has lost both of his parents to the war.

He is fierce about the fact and ends practicing metal boxing in order to take out his anger.

He becomes one of those arena fighters, recovering from the extreme effects of war, turning himself into a killing machine.

The anime is produced under Netflix and was aired in the year 2019 and has 12 episodes with 25 minutes duration per episode.

The young astronauts are the only ones to rely on but in the meanwhile, the place gets sabotaged.

The episodes are 23 minutes longer and 26 of them in total.

An evil person Black Ghost had kidnapped nine men and women and had turned them into cyborg soldiers.

The anime is a second-time adaption of the manga Cyborg 009. It got released in the year 1979 and had a run time of 25 minutes.

However, a question has rose about the ruling of the orbitals and colonies. To solve this, the countries have decided on a tradition wherein they build a new Gundam and fight them off to the winner of the last Gundam fight and then the new winner gets to rule the colonies for four years straight.

Similar Japan has sent the Domon Kasshu along with a powerful Gundam in order to take the trophy this year.

Is that all are they worried about? Or there is much more? The anime was first released in the year 1994 with 49 episodes.

The people on Moon are known to be “Moonrace” are all set to get back to Earth.

They have to keep an eye on it for a way long to capture it again and resettle.

Keeping this in mind, they send Rolan Cehack to check the living resources. Rolan stays in the place and gets familiar with everything for a year long.

When the people on the Earth planet do the age-coming ceremony by making a giant stone doll known as “White Doll”.

However, the Moonrace is all set to get back to the place and take it by force.

Upon that the White Doll breaks and turns into a Gundam known as “Turn A Gundam” with Rolan on the backseat controlling it.

Will Rolan be successful in saving the Earth again from this Moonrace? The anime got released in the fall of 1999 with 50 episodes.

Like how in the year 2808, three criminals are set free to perform tasks on behalf of the police.

In return for their performances, the life sentences under their name will be reduced. They have been given a collar around their neck which keeps them in check and if they fail to meet their tasks, those particular collars will the reason for their death.

Now that’s on having mercy also being ruthless at the same time. Cyber City Oedo 808 was aired in the year 1990 with only three episodes in check.

The city of Lux is a man-made underground city. Ichise is our main character who is an orphan and also a prizefighter, he fights for a living.

Unfortunately undergoing a rivalry, his opponent attacks him and injures him. The injuries make him lose his left arm and leg.

Before Ichise could lose his breath, a woman scientist takes him under her wing and gives him the arm and leg he lost through Texhnolyze.

Ichise is all set with his new limbs and is been taken under a powerful leader of a gang Organ, Oonishi.

He then meets a girl Ran, who can see in the future. They together discover that Lux is on the verge of collapsing.

Will they be able to save the city? The anime had its first television debut in the year 2003 and has 22 episodes throughout.

The title sounds really very interesting, doesn’t it? So is the story, let’s read. Zonders are a kind/race of alien monsters that emerge from the underground and are about to destroy the city of Tokyo.

And humans are nowhere in comparison to an alien power. The only thing that can survive the city through this attack is their last hope and power, GaoGaiGar.
