The series talks about Tomomi Nomiya, Kiyoharu Togawa, and Hisanobu Takahashi. All of these gentlemen had one or another life experience that ruined their life for the worst.

However, this is the tale of those who overcome all their weaknesses and pursue their dreams.

Paralysis, accidents, and depression are just minute hurdles that these warriors will overcome to do what they love the most.

Real is done by one of the best manga artists of all time. Inoue not only draws like a God but also creates some of the finest stories ever created.

And if you wish to start with his works then I think Real would be great for you.

20. Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä

And let’s enter this level with Nausicaa. Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä is a 7 volume manga series that started back in 1982.

It is written and illustrated by Miyazaki Hayao. The Manga tells us about Nausicaa, who is the heir of the Kingdom Valley of The Wind.

The sheer amount of war has led to humanity being close to Extinction. Those who survived before are a part of clans now just like Nausicaa.

However, these people are trying to bring history back again. And Nausicaa has to make sure that there is no war from here on out.

If she isn’t able to stop them then Humanity’s end would be on the horizon.

Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind is a manga that depicts the dangerous nature of war in an entertaining and exciting format.

For anyone who loves to enjoy their war-related stuff, this is a manga for you.

19. Koe no Katachi

I am pretty sure that many of you have already watched the movie adaptation of this manga.

If you don’t remember, let me do the honors. The next manga on our list is A Silent Voice.

Koe no Katachi is a 7 volume manga series that started back in 2013. It is written and illustrated by Ooima Yoshitoki.

The manga tells the story of Ishida who used to bully a deaf girl named Nishimiya.

However, when he got caught for his acts his life changed forever. Those who supported him during his wrong also faced him.

Now, he is all with only regret and guilt in mind. However, when he meets Nishimiya back again, he gets the opportunity to atone for his sins.

A Silent Voice is an incredible drama series that will make you cry so much.

If you think that the movie was it then you are wrong. There is A LOT of content left in the manga that you NEED to look at.

18. Yotsuba to!

A slice-of-life series done as beautifully as Yotsuba is a rare occurrence. However, that is also the reason why this series is so good in the first place, right?

Yotsuba to! is a currently-publishing manga series that started back in 2003. It is written and illustrated by Azuma Kiyohiko.

The story talks about the daily life of 5-years-old Yotsuba Koiwai who just moved to a new city with her father.

When she gets along with the Ayase family and learns new things every day, those around her get annoyed yet entertained with her actions.

A sweet and simple story, of a girl learning everything, from using a swing to stopping Global Warming.

The gentle atmosphere and vivid characters were praised by the critics after reading this manga.

Not to mention, the manga won the 20th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. So yeah, for any slice-of-life fan, this manga is heaven.

17. Houseki no Kuni

Now let’s talk about a manga that is not as straightforward as you might think.

This is Land of the lustrous. Houseki no Kuni is a currently-publishing manga series that started back in 2012.

It is written and illustrated by Ichikawa Haruko. The story is set in a world where a single island inhabits all of the life forms because of a disaster.

However, those beneath the water start to show up and the island residents are looking for their bodies to make weapons.

So these crystalized beings from the water must fight against these residents to ensure their safety.

However, to do so, they have to pay a hefty price that no one would wish to pay.

This manga is a lot deeper in its narrative than what meets the eye. The story tackles the idea of war and fights with a mature and strong approach.

If you want to enjoy some artistic manga then I think this one is waiting for you.

16. GTO

GTO

I know many of us have had experiences with many different teachers. However, none of them would have been even close to how good Onizuka is.

GTO is a 25 volume manga series that started back in 1996. It is written and illustrated by Fujisawa Tohru.

Great Teacher Onizuka tells the story of an ex-gangster named Eiichiro Onizuka who wants to be a teacher so that he can have a beautiful wife in his old age.

However, when he does become the teacher, he realizes the hardships of students who are studying in his school.

The students try to bully Onizuka but a few kids can’t bully a gangster, right?

So when they get comfortable with him, they take his help and tackle the problems they face.

And let’s just say that a gangster has a very different approach while tackling those adolescent problems.

GTO is incredible. It is grounded, realistic, and entertaining. With bits of Ecchi and action, this manga becomes one that everyone would have a fun time reading.

That includes you of course.

15. 3-Gatsu no Lion

3-gatsu no Lion

This manga tells us the story of an expert and the mindset that goes on behind him.

You will realize what those ‘Lucky Ones’ have going on in their mind as you are backbiting them.  3-Gatsu no Lion is a currently-publishing manga series that started back in 2007.

It is written and illustrated by Umino Chika. The manga talks about Rei Kiriyama, an expert Shogi player who moves into an apartment to live alone.

Why alone? Well, that’s because he was pressurized so much by the Shogi community and his family that he couldn’t handle it.

Moreover, his communication skills are rock-bottom because of his shy nature. However, his life is going to change when he meets the Kawamoto sisters who are going to do all they can to make Rei a better person and show him the brighter side of life.

March Comes In Like A Lion is another slow burner that will teach you multiple life lessons during its air.

Without a doubt, one of the best slice-of-life manga out there. And did I mention that it won the 4th Manga Taisho Award and 35th Kodansha Manga Award?

Yeah, you have no reason to NOT read this manga.

14. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen

Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen

Yup, the name is super long. But let me tell you ladies and gentlemen, this manga is absolutely stunning.

And without a doubt, one of the best pieces of romance ever created! Why? Let’s have a look at Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen is a currently-publishing manga series that started back in 2015.

It is written and illustrated by Akasaka Aka. The series talks about Shuchiin academy where only the richest and/or brightest students can step in.

In this school of privilege stands Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane, the vice president and president of the student council respectively.

However, both of these elite students are in love with each other BUT they won’t confess it.

Because according to them, the one who confesses the love first is going to be the loser all his/her life.

So they begin strategizing and creating situations to make sure that they make the other person confess.

Who will show up as the strongest in this battle of confession, that is Kaguya Sama for you?

The greatness of this manga comes from its execution of the concept. On the surface, this might seem like a silly idea.

But when you put it down, it turns out to be done brilliantly. If you haven’t read Kaguya Sama, then you are missing out so much man.

Give this manga a try for me.

13. Ashita no Joe

If you liked Hajime No Ippo, I am pretty sure you will also enjoy Ashita No Joe.

Because trust me when I say this, that anyone who is even remotely interested in boxing would certainly love this manga.

Ashita no Joe is a 20 volume manga series that started back in 1968. It is written by Kajiwara Ikki and illustrated by Chiba Tetsuya.

The series talks about Joe Yabuki, a man who went to prison multiple times but every time he did, he got closer and closer to boxing.

Now he is on his way to becoming the greatest boxer there has ever been and fight his rival Rikishi for sure.

This is the journey of Joe going from being an accused criminal to an actual boxer.

There isn’t much to say about Ashita no Joe. The story is a journey that gets better and better every time.

You might not find it interesting now but just read 3 chapters for me. I am sure you will return back here after completing 30.

12. 20th Century Boys

Very rarely do we see some manga as creative as the 20th Century Boys. I mean come on.

When else do you see a series change the narrative as quickly as this one did.   20th Century Boys is a 22 volume manga series that started back in 1999.

It is written and illustrated by Urasawa Naoki. The manga talks about Kenji Endo who comes across the news of one of his childhood friend’s death and the increase in activity of this group called ‘Friend’.

Later on, he realizes that this group is going to commit some of the most lethal activities that can shape the world forever and now Kenji has to do all he can to stop them and save innocent lives.

This manga is set at the end of the 20th century and using that ‘change’ narrative, it portrays its beautiful story.

Artistic and Amazing will be your response after reading this manga.

11. Grand Blue

Well well, look what we have here. Another sports manga that will open your eyes forever.

However, unlike many sports manga, Grand Blue is not JUST focusing on its sports element.

Instead, it also dives into the characters involved with the sport, making it surreal. Grand Blue is a currently-publishing manga series that started back in 2014.

It is written by Inoue Kenji and illustrated by Yoshioka Kimitake. The series talks about the life of Iori Kitahara who just moved in at his uncle’s place in order to attend his university.

He is looking forward to a bright student life filled with fun. However, his fun turns out to be something unimaginable when he joins the diving club.

In this club, men dance naked and celebrate all day with a beer in their hands.

However, this is just 1 of the many weird things that happen in this club.

As time goes by, Iori meets even more confusing people and encounters the sport of diving.

And as he does all of these, he understands the true essence of enjoyment. Grand Blue is a slice-of-life manga that needs your attention even if you are not a slice-of-life fan.

With its funny content and adventurous nature, I don’t think it will take much time to become one of your favorite manga of all time.

Don’t believe me? Just give it a try.

10. Slam Dunk

This is it, boys! We are in the Top 10 Best Manga. Every manga from here on out is a must-read for anyone who has been in the anime community for a while.

And remember when I said that we were dealing with one of the best Basketball manga a few entries back?

Well, now we are dealing with the absolute best basketball manga. This is Slam Dunk.

Slam Dunk is a 31 volume manga series that started back in 1990. It is written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue.

The story talks about Hanamichi Sakuragi, a tall and fearsome-looking boy who was rejected by females all his middle school life.

Moreover, he had some experiences that caused him to hate basketball forevermore. So when he was admitted to high school, he wanted to break his streak of 50 rejections very badly.

That is the reason he decided to go along with Haruko Akagi as she asked him if he can play basketball.

She requested her to make some throws and even though he failed, the team captain noticed his unreal abilities and so he started to get involved with Basketball for his team.

This is how our boy who hated basketball ended up pursuing it in high school.

However, his journey has just begun and many hurdles are yet to come. Will he be able to surpass them?

Slam Dunk is emotional, beautiful, and exciting. Very rarely do we see these combinations working so well?

I mean how else would you win the 40th Shogakukan Manga Awards and get nominated as the best manga series of all time in a public poll?

So yeah, Slam Dunk is an incredible manga that you wouldn’t wanna miss out on.

But just wait pal, the best is yet to come.

9. Kingdom

The medieval-themed manga always brings some gripping adventures along with it. And when we talk about such a series, Kingdom is a name we should include at all costs.

Kingdom is a currently-publishing manga series that started back in 2006. It is written and illustrated by Hara Yasuhisa.

The story is set in the medieval world where two orphan slaves aim to be great generals.

Xin and Piao are close friends who share this dream but unfortunately, one of them ends up losing his life.

However, right before death, Piao asked Xin to confront the potential King of their nation Qin, named Ying Zheng.

And although they start on bad terms, soon Xin and Win become comrades. With both of them having their own goals, they are supposed to fight together in order to save their nation.

And as they do so, they should also take care of their aspirations. Kingdom is one of the most critically acclaimed manga series of all time.

The art of this manga is impeccable with such an absorbing and gripping feel. No wonder it has won the 17th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Grand Prize.

And did I mention that it also won the Guinness book of world records for the manga written by the highest number of people?

So yeah, rest assured, Kingdom is worth all your time and money.

8. Monster

The next manga on our list is for those who want their mind bent while reading their manga.

And with one of the best stories you can find in the medium, Monster might have what it takes to satiate you.

Monster is an 18 volume manga series that started back in 1994. It is written and illustrated by Urasawa Naoki.

Monster tells the story of Kenzou Tenma who is a neurosurgeon who had the opportunity to either save Johan Leibert or Mayor Dusseldorf.

He decides to save Johan, a normal boy who was about to die. However, when he does, he gets demoted by the hospital director and loses his engagement with his daughter.

His life was going to be an unsuccessful one for sure. But things started to look different for him when the director was killed by someone.

Nine years have passed since this incident and now Tenma is close to being the director himself.

However, there is some unknown killing going on in this world. And let’s just say that the reason for these killings is none other than Tenma!

How? Read it to find out. This manga tests your morale and intelligence with its narrative.

It has won the 3rd Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize and 46th Shogakukan Manga Award in the General category.

If you want to enjoy some amazing manga that tackles some mature themes then Monster is for you my friend.

7. JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 7: Steel Ball Run

I am certain that a lot of you guys already know about JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series.

This manga created a massive impact in the medium after its arrival and is still looked upon as one of the best out there.

However, out of all the parts available, Part 7 is undoubtedly the best one. JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 7: Steel Ball Run is a 24 volume manga series that started back in 2004.

It is written and illustrated by Araki Hirohiko. The story marks the beginning of Steel Ball Run, one of the most dangerous races that will cover hundreds of kilometers daily and have the cash prize of over $50,000,000.

Oh yeah, it’s epic! And Johnny Joestar wanted to just enjoy this race from the outside.

However, when he accidentally touched one of the magical balls of another racer named Gyro Zeppeli, he was able to stand on his own two feet after 2 years.

Now Johnny wants to know the secret of those steel balls and to do so, he decides to make his way to the legendary Steel Ball Run.

Yup, the manga doesn’t have any out-of-the-world stories. It’s your typical JoJo narrative. However, what makes it so special is its execution.

We don’t see such beautiful executions of the concept in anime and manga that often.

And that is why JoJo Part 7 is on the 7th rank.

6. Vinland Saga

Remember when I said that Kingdom should be included while talking about my manga? Yeah, Vinland Saga falls in the same category.

However, unlike most medieval-themed manga, this one has a qualitative and unique storyline to offer.

Vinland Saga is a currently publishing manga series that started back in 2005. It is written and illustrated by Yukimura Makoto.

Set during the England war, Vinland Saga talks about Thorfinn, the son of the greatest Viking, Thors.

However, the warrior looked upon as unbeatable, was defeated by Askeladd, and now Thorfinn is tailing Askeladd for the sake of revenge.

But Askeladd asks Thorfinn to work for him against the chance at the duel. And that marks the beginning of Thorfinn, the son of the greatest warrior, to seek his revenge.

However, as time passes by, he realizes the unknown truth of this miserable world that will open his eyes forever.

Vinland Saga is an incredible war manga that is just too good to ignore. Amazing artworks, characters, and storylines are just some of the many reasons why you should try out this manga.

And did I mention that Vinland Saga won the 13th Japan Media Art Award Grand prize?

Moreover, it also named itself as the winner of the 36th Kodansha Manga Award. I don’t think I need to mention anything more to tell you how good this series is.

5. Vagabond

We are in the Top 5 ladies and gentlemen. This is it! The final stretch.

Every manga from here on is a must-read for anyone who ever wanted to enjoy any sort of manga.

All of these series are versatile and have multiple appeals to suit your taste. And if one of your favorite themes happens to be samurai, then Vagabond will serve you very well.

Vagabond is a 37 volume manga series that started back in 1998. It is written and illustrated by Inoue Takehiko.

The manga talks about Shinmen Takezou, an excellent swordsman, who was known for his rough and aggressive nature.

However, when this nature works against him, he is framed as a killer of his friend.

When he was left out to die by the villagers, he got saved by a monk and that monk granted him a new name.

With this new name, Shinmen is on his way to becoming a better swordsman. However, this time, he is looking for the meaning of life, friends, and relationships.

Vagabond is the best manga created by Inoue Takehiko. If you remember correctly, he is the same guy responsible for Real and Slam Dunk.

So you know how amazing his drama narration and artwork are. Moreover, these features of his manga also allowed him to win the Japan Media Arts Festival Grand Prize and the 24th Kodansha Manga Award.

To add up, he has also got his hands on the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize and sold over 82 million copies in 2002.

Yup, you can’t go wrong with Vagabond.

Yup, this is the incredible Fullmetal Alchemist series. Fullmetal Alchemist is a 27 volume manga series that started back in 2001.

It is written and illustrated by Arakawa Hiromu. Fullmetal Alchemist talks about the Elric brothers who used Alchemy to revive their dead mother.

However, Alchemy is an art that works on the ‘Equivalent Exchange’ principle. And since there’s no value for a soul, they end up losing their body parts.

Now, these brothers are on their way to find the Philosopher’s stone so they can get their bodies back.

However, in their search for the Philosopher’s Stone, they are going to realize the truth of their world.

A truth that will define the fate of their existence. This manga works wonders for ANYONE reading it.

Whether a boy or girl, young or old, this manga will appeal to every single person who reads it.

For many, it is the closest thing to a ‘Perfect’ manga and once you read the series, you would realize why people say so.

There’s a reason why it won the 49th Shogakukan Manga Award and the 15th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.

There’s no reason for you to skip this manga. It is incredible.

3. Oyasumi Punpun

Now we are at the Top 3 Ladies and Gentlemen. These 3 mangas are the best of the best.

If you want to enjoy the best of what this medium could offer, you should read these three to get an idea of it.

And I think there’s no better way to start the Top 3 with Goodnight Punpun.

Oyasumi Punpun is a 13 volume manga series that started back in 2007. It is written and illustrated by Inio Asano.

The manga talks about the life of Punpun Onodera who is entering his adulthood stage and experiencing the consequences.

Although he is a shy yet simple boy, Punpun is having the time of his life.

With the appearance of Aiko Tanaka, his life takes some romantic and interesting turns. However, this life is going to experience a lot more on its journey.

And these experiences are going to leave the deepest marks in Punpun’s mind. This psychological manga is known within the community as the most sorrowful story out there.

With its dark theme and morally challenging narrative, Oyasumi Punpun is a one-of-a-kind manga that you might never encounter again.

So I request you to make sure that you read it to have an experience you have never had before.

For Runner Up, we have one of the most commercially successful manga series of all time.

Yup, you guessed it! For the second spot on our list, we have the legendary One Piece.

One Piece is currently-publishing manga series that started back in 1997. It is written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda.

One Piece is set in a world where pirates are found all along. However, an even bigger uprising is caused when pirate Gol D Roger declares the existence of the ultimate treasure ‘One Piece’.

So after his execution, a new era for pirates has arrived with one of them being Monkey D Luffy.

This is the journey of our boy Luffy who has determined to find One Piece and attain it at all costs.

However, on his journey, Luffy would meet lovely friends and formidable foes. This adventure is going to be a long one.

One Piece is just…… it’s just…….. OUTSTANDING! Very rarely do we see any manga that improves with every new arc.

However, One Piece manages to do so with ease while also selling to this day.

Just think about it, A manga from 1997 is going on TO THIS DAY with a new chapter almost every week.

I hope you can understand how admired this manga is. Eiichiro Oda is looked upon as one of the greatest authors ever and One Piece has around 500 MILLION COPIES SOLD.

Imagine that number! It holds some records like the highest first print run of any manga of all time in Japan.

Moreover, it was the finalist for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize from 2000-2002 CONTINUOUSLY. And to top it all off, it has won the 41st Japan Cartoonist Association Award Grand Prize.

I can’t emphasize to you enough to read the manga. Yes, it is very long but just start with the first 10 chapters.

You won’t realize when you got super invested in it.

And finally, the top ranker of our super long list. The one that defeated all those below him with ease.

This is the manga that stands at the top and I don’t think there’s any debate about it.

Yup, the first ranker on our Top 50 Best Manga list is none other than the legendary Berserk!

Berserk is a 41 volume manga series that started back in 1989. It is written and illustrated by Kentarou Miura.

Berserk dives into the life of Guts, a mercenary who lost his mother and humanity back in his childhood.

His life was worse than hell when he used to wake up to kill and survive in this cruel world.

However, soon he got assistance from someone unknown who taught him the bright side of life.

However, years later, Guts has been betrayed and now he is on an act of revenge.

The revenge to find the one who made him as miserable as he is and took everything away from him.

Granted with the ‘Black Swordsman’ name and incredible strength, Guts is on a journey to attain his revenge.

And this time, even death can’t stop him. Berserk is dark, gory, eye-opening, beautiful, and incredible.

Whether you talk about story or art, plot or characters, this manga excels in all of them and that is the reason why it is one of the most critically acclaimed manga of all time.

And not just critical acclaim but public love and awards like Award For Excellence at the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize are also bestowed on this series.

This manga is a Masterpiece created by legendary author, late Kentarou Miura. And his legacy will always be alive with the presence of Berserk.

Anyone who has ever had the idea of consuming even a page of manga is bound to admire the excellence of this series.
